What concrete patios and flatwork involves

Concrete flatwork covers any flat, poured concrete surface on your property: backyard patios, walkways, side yards, driveways, pool decks, RV pads, stoops, and equipment slabs. Done correctly, it’s far more than mixing bags and pouring. A solid pour starts with proper excavation and compacted base material, usually class II road base, so the slab has a stable, well-draining foundation underneath.

From there we set forms to grade, slope away from the house for drainage, and install rebar or wire mesh reinforcement sized to the slab’s use. Concrete is ordered from a local Fresno ready-mix plant at the right PSI for the job, typically 3000–4000 PSI for residential patios. After placement, the crew screeds, floats, and finishes the surface to your chosen texture — broom finish, smooth trowel, salt finish, exposed aggregate, or stamped and colored concrete that mimics flagstone, slate, or pavers. FAQ

How thick should my concrete patio be?
For foot traffic and patio furniture, 4 inches over a compacted base is standard. If you’ll park vehicles, set a hot tub, or roll heavy equipment over it, we step up to 5 or 6 inches with heavier rebar.

Will my concrete crack?
All concrete eventually develops hairline cracks — that’s physics, not bad work. The goal is controlling where they happen. Proper base prep, rebar, and saw-cut control joints push cracks into the joints where you don’t see them.

Stamped concrete or pavers — which is better?
Both have a place. Stamped concrete is usually less expensive per square foot and gives a continuous surface. Pavers are easier to repair and won’t show cracks the same way. We install both and can walk you through trade-offs for your yard.

How long before I can use my new patio?
You can walk on it the next day. Hold off on heavy furniture for about a week, and vehicles for 28 days while the concrete reaches full strength.

Can you tear out and replace my old slab?

Do you pull permits?
